South Korea: SHI Chooses STADT Electric Propulsion for LNG-Fuelled Ships

SHI Chooses STADT Electric Propulsion for LNG-Fuelled Ships

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries, has ordered electrical propulsion system from Norway-based STADT AS for a new generation of environmentally friendly ships with LNG-electric propulsion.

It’s the patented No-Loss Drive system that is now introduced to the world’s largest shipbuilding nation.

This system enables to separate the power production from the propeller system. The LNG fed generators will operate with a rather steady load, quite independent of how much power used on the propeller. The propellers are driven by the robust STADT electric No-Loss drive system.

Samsung has together with the Korean government an increased focus on developing more sustainable propulsion technology for their ships. Reduction of CO2, NOx and fuel are important goals, together with a convert from oil to natural gas.

STADT is a supplier of totally integrated electric systems, including generators, switchboards, motor drives / inverters, power management systems, integrated alarm and monitoring systems, electric motors, etc.
