South Korea: small-scale LNG FRU launched

A small-scale floating regasification unit (FRU) was launched on February 21 at Kangnam Shipyard in Busan, Korea, according to Gas Entec.

The FRU is a part of a mini LNG import project in Indonesia that will serve the 200 MW power plant in Bali to be operated by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (PEL). The project also includes an LNG floating storage unit (FSU).

Gas Entec of South Korea was last year chosen as the engineering contractor for both the LNG FRU and the FSU. According to Gas Entec, this is world’s first small-scale liquefied natural gas FRU.

The mini LNG terminal is expected to start operations in March, supplying 40 million standard cubic feet per day of gas to PEL’s power plant.

JSK Shipping / Humpuss transportation consortium will operate the two units and supply liquefied natural gas to the power plant.
