South Korea, the world’s third buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), received 2.97 million tons of LNG in May, 7.2 percent above the 2.77 mtpa in the corresponding month last year.

Qatar, the world’s top LNG producer, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 822,480 metric tonnes of the fuel imported from Qatar last month, down 3 percent on year.

Australia was the second-largest LNG supplier to Korea in May with 573,509 mt, followed by Oman with 363,360 mt and Russia that supplied 263,057 mt.

The remaining volumes imported into South Korea last month were sourced from the United States, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru and Brunei.
