South Korea’s LNG imports rise in April YoY

South Korea, the world’s second-largest buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), boosted its imports of the chilled fuel by 7.4 percent in April year-on-year.

The country imported 2.34 million mt of LNG in April, as compared to 2.17 million mt in the corresponding month the year before, according to the customs data.

The data shows that South Korea paid about $963 million for the LNG imports last month.

Qatar, the world’s top LNG exporter, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 656,678 mt of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar in April.

Australia was the second-largest LNG supplier to Korea last month with 486,501 mt.

The remaining volumes imported into South Korea were sourced from Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, USA, Brunei and Equatorial Guinea.
