Spanish Authorities Detain Malta-Flagged Tanker

The Malta-flagged oil/chemical tanker FT Portoria was detained in the port of Salinetas, Canary Islands following an order from the Spanish Ministry of Justice on May 20, the local media reported.

The 2013-built vessel, owned by the Turkish company Furtrans Denizcilik, was reportedly arrested due to the shipowner’s unpaid debts.

As the judicial proceedings could get prolonged, the port authority of Las Palmas has asked the court to allow the vessel to leave its berth in the port, so that it can make room for other ships to dock.

Following the court’s approval, the vessel departed the port, however, it was ordered to stay at the Las Palmas anchorage until the issues is resolved.

According to AIS data from Marine Traffic, the 6,000 dwt vessel is still anchored in the Canary Islands.
