Spanish May LNG imports rise

Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose 15.2 percent in May on a yearly basis, according to the data provided by the LNG terminal operator, Enagás.

LNG imports reached 13.09 terawatt hours (TWh) in May, as compared to 11.37 TWh in the same month the year before.

Qatar was Spain’s largest supplier of LNG last month, followed by Nigeria, Algeria nad Peru, the data shows.

Both conventional gas demand and gas-to-power demand rose in the month under review.

Spain’s total natural gas imports reached 29.4 TWh last month, showing an increase of 5.2 percent from 27.9 TWh in May 2016.

Enagás’ Barcelona regasification terminal received 6 out of the total 15 LNG cargoes imported into Spain during the last month.

The report shows that the Huelva LNG terminal received 4 cargoes while Huelva and Bilbao took two shipments each during May. The Cartagena LNG terminal received one cargo during the previous month.

Spain, the world’s largest re-exporter of LNG, did not ship any cargoes of previously imported LNG during May.
