The Andromeda North is located in license P2128, Block 42/12, in the Southern North Sea where Spirit is the operator with a 55% interest and Hague and London Oil (HALO) is a partner with the remaining 45% interest.

HALO announced the spudding of the well on Wednesday, July 31. The company added that the Andromeda North well is targeting ca. 40 Bcf of resource, within the single well and is planned to be drilled to a total depth in excess of 3000m.

The well is expected to take ca. 90 days to reach total depth, logging and in the event of a discovery will be suspended as a future production well, HALO concluded.

Andrew Cochran, Chairman and Interim Chief Executive of Hague and London Oil plc, commented: “HALO is very pleased to announce the drilling of Andromeda North, particularly as this is our first well on the UK Continental Shelf. While the previous Pegasus West only development plan is being reviewed, the Andromeda North well demonstrates progress within, and commitment to, the Greater Pegasus Area overall. Additionally, the Company is beginning to plan for a broader drilling campaign in the Southern North Sea in 2020, with Maple being the initial target having had the license extended after our additional work last year.”

According to information on UK OGA’s website, the well was spud on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Spirit Energy has previously contracted the Noble Corporation-owned Noble Hans Deul jack-up drilling rig for operations in the UK North Sea. In the period between April and July 2019, Spirit exercised one of two one-well options for the rig, which extended the contract end date from July to December 2019. Spirit has one remaining one-well option for the rig.

It is also worth reminding that HALO entered Spirit’s North Sea acreage in September 2018 through an acquisition of the entire share capital of Third Energy Offshore. The portfolio of Third Energy included interests in the Greater Pegasus Area and the high impact Andromeda prospect.
