Spotted: TOTE’s 2nd LNG Ship Geared for Launching

TOTE

TOTE’s second ship in a series of the world’s first natural gas powered containerships, built by General Dynamics NASSCO, is featured in today’s Spotted.

NASSCO shipbuilders will launch her into the ocean next Saturday, August 29th at NASSCO’s San Diego yard when the name of the new ship will be revealed.

The ship will be christened by Emma Engle, a third-generation shareholder of Saltchuk. TOTE is one of six business units in the Saltchuk family of companies.

NASSCO christened and launched the world’s first container ship powered by LNG at its shipyard in San Diego on April 18.

The new containerships will reduce particulate matter by 98 percent and carbon dioxide emissions by 72 percent — the equivalent of removing more than 15,700 cars from the road.
