Statkraft Welcomes Major Offshore Wind Investment

Reacting to the Siemens’ announcement regarding the decision to invest £160 million in wind turbine production and installation facilities in Yorkshire, while at the same time Associated British Ports (ABP) is investing a further £150 million in the Green Port Hull development, Bjorn Drangsholt, Statkraft UK Managing Director, said:

“Statkraft welcomes the announcement to construct two offshore wind turbine facilities in the UK. This demonstrates that the UK offshore industry is going from strength to strength and delivering benefits in terms of jobs and growth in the supply chain in addition to those that are already being created in the development, construction and operation of projects.”

Statkraft is Europe’s leader in renewable energy and aims to be a long term player in offshore wind power and a profitable lead operator in all project phases. Statkraft already operates Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm off the Norfolk, UK coast. The wind farm is owned by Statkraft in conjunction with Statoil. In partnership with Statoil, Statkraft is also developing the Dudgeon Offshore wind project in the same waters as Sheringham Shoal. Statkraft is also a 25% partner in the Forewind consortium, developing projects on Dogger Bank, 120 km off the UK east coast, potentially the world’s largest offshore wind development.
