Statoil appoints ex-Shell CEO van der Veer to its board

Norway’s Statoil said on Thursday it has named former Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer to its board of directors. 

He was recommended for the position on March 15 by the Statoil’s nomination committee.

Van der Veer that has served as CEO of Royal Dutch Shell in the period 2004 to 2009, when he retired. Van der Veer thereafter continued as a non-executive director on the board of Shell until 2013, Statoil said in a statement.

He is inter alia the chair of the supervisory boards of ING Bank and Royal Philips Electronics and member of the supervisory board of Boskalis Westminster Groep.

The election enters into effect from March 18, and lasts until the ordinary election of shareholder-elected members to the board of directors in 2017, Statoil added.
