Statoil Extends Contract for Discoverer Americas Drillship

Transocean, one of the world’s largest offshore drilling contractors, announced yesterday it has secured a new contract for its Discoverer Americas drillship.

The drillship, capable of operating in moderate environments and water depths up to 12,000 feet (3,657 m), has been awarded a two-year contract for operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico by the Norwegian oil giant, Statoil.

According to information in Trans0cean’s fleet status report, the dayrate for the contract has been set at $600,000 ($438 million contract backlog). The drillship’s prior dayrate was $509,000.

The contract is scheduled to start May 2014.
