Statoil gets permit to drill Tune Statfjord well

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Statoil a drilling permit for an appraisal well at the Tune Statfjord prospect offshore Norway.

The wellbore 30/8-5 will be drilled from the Odfjell Drilling-owned Deepsea Atlantic drilling rig, following completion of drilling for Statoil in production license 501.

Statoil has already received consent from the Norwegian offshore safety watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), to drill the 30/8-5 well with the Odfjell rig.

The drilling program for wellbore 30/8-5 concerns the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 190, the NPD detailed on Wednesday.

Statoil is the operator of the license with an ownership interest of 50 percent. The other licensees are Petoro (40 percent) and Total E&P Norge (10 percent). The well will be drilled about 5 kilometers west of the Oseberg field.

Production license 190 was awarded on September 10, 1993 in the 14th licensing round on the Norwegian shelf. This is the fifth well to be drilled in the license.
