In February, the industry was saddened by the death of a young diver from Karmoy, who reportedly ran out of air after getting stuck underwater during maintenance work on a platform at Westcon’s shipyard in Ølensvåg.

More bad news came from Norway when Aker Solutions informed its employees in maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) division it will temporary reduce wages of senior management by 10 percent while the remainder of the staff will see reductions of 5 percent.

Technip was successful in scoring a job on one of the largest oil fields in the North Sea, Johan Sverdrup and in Gulf of Mexico for its pipelay vessel the Deep Blue, while its spoolbase in Mobile, Alabama, USA will be busy fabricating flowline system for the same project.

Other interesting stories came from Bibby Offshore who is said to have developed a new vessel share option for clients, and from Saipem who filed a €759 million claim against Gazprom over the scrapped South Stream pipeline project.
