In February, the industry was saddened by the death of a young diver from Karmoy, who reportedly ran out of air after getting stuck underwater during maintenance work on a platform at Westcon’s shipyard in Ølensvåg.

More bad news came from Norway when Aker Solutions informed its employees in maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) division it will temporary reduce wages of senior management by 10 percent while the remainder of the staff will see reductions of 5 percent.

On a brighter note, major players, such as Technip and Subsea 7 confirmed significant contract awards despite tough times in the industry. Subsea 7 landed a three-year frame agreement, with four one-year options, for six North Sea clients and secured a $750-million deal offshore Egypt from BP. Technip was successful in scoring a job on one of the largest oil fields in the North Sea, Johan Sverdrup and in Gulf of Mexico for its pipelay vessel the Deep Blue, while its spoolbase in Mobile, Alabama, USA will be busy fabricating flowline system for the same project.

Other interesting stories came from Bibby Offshore who is said to have developed a new vessel share option for clients, and from Saipem who filed a €759 million claim against Gazprom over the scrapped South Stream pipeline project.

Saipem Hits South Stream with €759M Claim
Italian oilfield services player, Saipem, has filed a €759 million claim against Gazprom after Russia decided to scrap the South Stream project resulting in the termination of a major contract related to the pipe laying activities under the Black Sea.
A2SEA’s Sea Worker Capsized Offshore Denmark
A2SEA’s Sea Worker vessel capsized during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, after running aground off the Coast of Hvide Sande, Denmark. Reportedly, the accident has occurred due to harsh weather on the site. No pollution has been detected from the vessel.

One of the largest subsea construction vessels the North Sea Giant has been spotted in the dock at Aibel’s yard in Haugesund last month . According to Aibel, about 100 Aibel workers are engaged on the vessels’ several modification tasks.
Helix plunges into loss
Offshore services player, Helix Energy Solutions, has plummeted into loss as it books some $503 million of non-cash pre-tax charges in the fourth quarter 2015. These charges resulted in an after-tax impact of $398.5 million, or $(3.77) per diluted share.

Technip Confirms Statoil Contracts
Technip was awarded by Statoil two contracts for infield pipeline construction for the Johan Sverdrup Development and the Oseberg Vestflanken 2 projects. According to Statoil the combined contract value is around NOK 400 million (approx. USD 47 million).
Technip Deep Blue
Technip has been awarded a contract by Deep Gulf Energy III, LLC (DGE) for the development of the South Santa Cruz and Barataria fields. The fields are located offshore New Orleans, in the Gulf of Mexico, in approximately 2,000 meters of water depth.
