Sweden’s Gotland inks deal for new LNG ferry

Rederi AB Gotland of Sweden said it has signed a contract with China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for a new LNG-powered ferry with a capacity of 1650 passengers.

The vessel, which is due to be delivered in 2017, will be the first Swedish-flagged passenger vessel with LNG propulsion, the company said in a statement.

According to Gotland, the LNG-powered ferry will cost about SEK 1bn ($134.75m). This is the company’s single largest investment in its 150-year history.
