Switzerland - ABB Plans to Take Control of More Vessels

According to ABB, a significant increase has been noted in terms of demand upgraded vessel information and control systems in last 12 months.

The engineering and technology conglomerate relates the growth to ship operators needing to comply with new environmental regulations, while also wanting to lower onboard energy use and fuel consumption.

Over 3000 automation and control systems in the maritime sector are in the possession of ABB. In 2011, it recorded a sale of 350 automation, vessel management and control systems of various types for a wide range of vessels.

The company offers a wide range of solutions such as a broad range of fleet management reporting solutions, integrated automation, vessel management and control systems and marine instrumentation and sensors. ABB also supplies the ‘visibility and control’ necessary for improving operating costs.

The company has developed a new vessel information and control business unit in order to come up with effective solutions for maritime. This development will be based on expertize and skills obtained in land-based industrial applications.
