U-Ming Takes Delivery of Cape Stars

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of CSSC, has delivered capesize bulk carrier ‘Cape Stars’ to U-Ming Marine Transport Corp of Taiwan. The vessel comes as the 300th newbuilding that was handed over by the shipyard since June 22nd 2003, when SWS made its first delivery.

The shipyard’s recent tonnage of yearly delivery has risen to almost 4.70m dwt, reports Asiasis. In this year, SWS bagged new orders for 51 vessels acquiring 9.713m in dwt.

‘Cape Stars’, equipped with fuel efficient and low carbon-emission main engines, was built with a price tag of approximately $50 million. She features modern hull design and sophisticated equipment meeting worldwide port requirements and market needs.

Currently U-Ming has six bulkers under construction at Waigaoqiao, two 206,000 dwt bulkers (second to be delivered in January 2014) and another four 186,000 dwt bulkers that will be delivered from the second half of 2014.
