Taiwan Bureau of Energy Awards TGC with Offshore Wind Grant Scheme

Taiwan Generations Corporation (TGC) has been awarded as the first-place winner of the Offshore Wind Grant Scheme (the Grant Scheme) by the Bureau of Energy in Taiwan.

The Grant Scheme will provide the financial support to the winners in order to realize a demonstration project composed of a 2-turbine pilot project and a 100MW-200MW offshore wind farm demonstrator as the first offshore wind farm in Taiwan before 2020. The official announcement has shown the determination of Taiwan Government to pursue offshore wind energy and to support the development.

TGC is the pioneer in Taiwan that has started offshore wind farm development works for over 8 years, starting from semi-offshore wind measurement and feasibility studies. Currently, TGC is developing a 52-turbine offshore wind farm deployment zone, Fuhai Deployment Zone, composed of three phases, Changhua Offshore Pilot Project (COPP, 2 turbines), Fuhai Offshore Windfarm (28 turbines) and the Test Zone (22 turbines). Fuhai Deployment Zone is expected to have a total of 250MW installed capacity and to produce clean energy for more than 220,000 homes in Taiwan.

COPP and Fuhai Offshore Windfarm were the scopes presented as the demonstration project and will be funded by the government as TGC is awarded for the Grant Scheme. For the demonstration project, TGC has already passed the panel review for the Environmental Impact Assessment approval in  December 2012 and aims to deliver COPP by the end of 2014 followed by Fuhai Offshore Windfarm by the end of 2016.
