The agreement covers complete tower supply for Taiwanese offshore wind projects which will feature MHI Vestas V174 wind turbine platform. These include the Changfang Phases 1 and 2, Xidao, and Zhong Neng offshore wind farms.

The wind turbine manufacturer signed a conditional agreement with CS Wind-Chin Fong in October 2018.

“This purchase agreement is the culmination of significant efforts by all parties, and we look forward to delivering our towers with consistency and quality in full support of Taiwan’s offshore wind supply chain developments”, said Knud Bjarne Hansen, Co-CEO of CS Wind.

According to MHI Vestas, the deal is delivering on its local content ambitions in Taiwan.

“Towers being sourced locally in Taiwan is another positive development for the local supply chain”, said Maida Zahirović, MHI Vestas Taiwan Business Director. “MHI Vestas’ leading localisation plan is continuing to deliver benefits for Taiwan, in partnership with local suppliers”.

“Further volume which utilises MHI Vestas’ established V174 platform will be needed through 2026 for local suppliers to achieve a return on their significant upfront investments”, Maida Zahirović added.

Along with this tower supply agreement, MHI Vestas has also signed several contracts in Taiwan for local supply of blades, blade materials, towers, switchgear, rotor hubs, hub plates, nacelle base frames, low voltage cabinets, UPS systems, and PCM assembly.

The company also plans to sign more local supply chain contracts in 2020.
