Tampnet Gets Johan Sverdrup Subsea Fibre Contract

Tampnet has been awarded a contract by Statoil for connecting the Johan Sverdrup field to their existing 2500 km subsea fibre infrastructure in the North Sea.

This contract and turn-key project will optimize and strengthen the telecommunication infrastructure for this field development.

Tampnet’s CEO, Per Helge Svensson said: “This contract confirms our position as the leading provider of fibre based telecom services for the offshore industry. In addition this shows that Statoil values our long-term vision of continuing to expand and maintain a highly robust and redundant subsea fibre network infrastructure.”

Johan Sverdrup is one of the five largest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf. It is located on the Utsira Height in the North Sea, 160 kilometers west of Stavanger.

Oil from the field will be piped to the Mongstad terminal in Hordaland. Gas will be transported via Statpipe to the Kårstø processing plant in North Rogaland.

The field holds expected resources of between 1.9—3.0 billion barrels of oil equivalents.
