Technip Energies-led JV nets ‘major’ LNG contract with QatarEnergy

A joint venture (JV) of Technip Energies, as the leader, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and Gulf Asia Contracting (GAC) has secured an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract by QatarEnergy for the onshore LNG facilities of the North Field West (NFW) project, the last in a series of expansion projects that will raise Qatar’s production to 142 million tons per annum (mtpa).

The award will see the delivery of two mega trains, each with a capacity of 8 mtpa of liquefied natural gas (LNG), as a replication of the two under construction by Technip Energies and CCC for the North Field South (NFS) project, as well as associated facilities for gas treatment, natural gas liquids recovery, and helium extraction.

Technip Energies said that the contract award was major, meaning it represents above €1 billion of revenue.

The signing ceremony took place at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha and the agreement was signed by His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, Samer Khoury, Chairman of CCC, and Ravi Pillai, Chairman and Managing Director of GAC.

NFW is the third expansion of LNG production from the North Field, located off the northeast shore of the Qatar peninsula. The gas field was discovered in 1971 and covers an area of over 6,000 square kilometers, equivalent to about half the land area of the State of Qatar.

Similar to North Field East (NFE) and NFS, NFW will capture and sequestrate an additional 1.1 mtpa of CO2 to bring the total to 2.2 mtpa from NFS and NFW combined.

This expansion project will produce approximately 16 mtpa of LNG, and together with NFE and NFS will increase Qatar’s total LNG export capacity from 77 mtpa to 142 mtpa. In addition to LNG production, it is expected to produce about 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of condensate, ethane, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
