Teekay axes jobs in FPSO business headquarters

Teekay, a marine energy transportation, storage and production company, has reportedly handed out pink slips to 28 employees in its office in Trondheim, Norway.

According to Dagens Næringsliv (DN), Norway’s business newspaper, Teekay is reducing its workforce in Trondheim by 28 positions due to lower activity levels and the impact of the low oil prices.

The information on Teekay’s website shows that the company has 189 employees in Trondheim office that is the operational headquarters of the company’s FPSO business.

The local team is responsible for managing the production units operating on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, while supporting the growing offices in Aberdeen and in Brazil.

Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Teekay for confirmation of these reports.

In an e-mail to Offshore Energy Today, Teekay spokesperson said: “Unfortunately in response to the macro environment that exists in the industry at the moment, we saw the need to review our organisational requirements with the aim of creating organisational efficiencies and agility.

The spokesperson added: “The 28 transactional support roles have been identified as being either no longer required or can be transferred to our Manila office. The Trondheim office has been the most affected by this process. We are constantly evaluating our organisational capacity to make sure it is in line with our activity levels, the macro environment and future ambitions.”
