Teekay’s Randgrid FSO begins Gina Krog work with Statoil

Teekay Offshore has informed that the Randgrid FSO has started working for Statoil at the Gina Krog oil and gas field in the Norwegian Sea.

The recently converted FSO had reached the field in mid-September, when the hook-up and commissioning activities began.

In a statement on Friday, Ingvild Sæther, President and CEO of Teekay Offshore Group Ltd said: “Today marks a significant milestone in Teekay Offshore’s FSO franchise with the start-up of our largest FSO project to-date.”

The Randgrid FSO further builds on our strategic partnership with Statoil and is expected to contribute annual cash flow from vessel operations of approximately $60 million during the firm period of the charter contract.”

The Randgrid, converted from a shuttle tanker by Sembcorp Marine in Singapore, will be used to store oil from the field which also produces gas.

Initially thought to be only a small size gas discovery made in 1974, the Gina Krog field proved oil in 2007 and 2008.

The Gina Krog is developed via a platform tied in to Sleipner A platform, and uses both processing capacity on the platform and existing pipelines for sending the gas to the market in Europe. Oil from the field is meant to be transported by the Rangrid FSO.
