Tekmar to Protect Formosa 1 Phase 2 Cables

Tekmar Energy has secured a contract with JDR Cables to provide its cable protection system (CPS) for the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Tekmar will supply approximately 60 of its TekLink Mechanical Latch CPS for all of the project’s inter-array and export cables, as well as 60 hang off clamps which hold the subsea cable in place within the transition piece.

The products will be produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in the North East of England.

To remind, Tekmar also provided its CPS for the first phase of the Formosa 1 offshore wind farm.

“Cable protection systems are vital for protecting the subsea cables of offshore wind farm projects. We have worked with Tekmar for many years and Formosa 1 Phase 2 builds on our trusted relationship on this exciting project,” said Paul Marsh, Projects Director at JDR Cables.

The 128MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 will comprise 20 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines installed on monopile foundations some 6km off the west coast of the Miaoli district in the Taiwan Strait. It is scheduled to be operational in 2020.
