The Netherlands: Damen Shipyards to Deliver 5th Combi Freighter 8200 in April

Damen Shipyards to Deliver 5th Combi Freighter 8200 in April

In April Damen Shipyards will deliver the fifth vessel of its Combi Freighter 8200 design to Onego Shipping. Being among the most reliable and fuel-efficient multi-purpose vessels in their class presently afloat, these ships boast an Ice Class 1A, retractable full tweendeck, capable of serving for vertical bulkheads, and are certified for the widest variety and range of cargoes both general and bulk.

The Combi Freighters are fitted with all relevant cargo handling systems required for handling of Multi Purpose Cargoes. On starboard side /portside two wire luffing cranes are installed which can be executed in various lifting capacities. The cranes are equipped with the most advanced systems to operate the cargo fast and safe as possible. The advantages of wire luffing in comparison with cylinder luffing are faster loading and unloading of cargo, easier maintenance, better stability of the jib when changing speed and lower centre of gravity. It is also possible to lift in tandem with use of an hoisting traverse. An anti-heeling system is installed to provide compensation of angles introduced by cargo handling with the deck crane. Heeling compensation is provided automatically by continuous measurement of the heeling angle. The pump is a reversible propeller pump operating in two directions. The cranes can be equipped with twin operation software: all movements of the two cranes are synchronized through the use of encoders and operated by one driver in the master cabin.
