Transocean in triple rig lay-up

Transocean, an offshore drilling contractor, has laid up three of its rigs.

According to its latest fleet status report, Transocean laid up its semi-submersible drilling rig, the Transocean Barents, the midwater floater GSF Rig 140 and high-spec jack-up rig GSF Galaxy II.

The semi-sub Transocean Barents was working for Shell offshore Norway with a dayrate of $300,000.

Shell used the rig to drill the Portrush exploration well in the Norwegian Sea in August. However, no oil was found as a result of drilling this exploration well.

According to Transocean’s previous fleet reports, the last gig for the midwater floater GSF Rig 140 was with ONGC offshore India with a dayrate of $156,000. Transocean’s jack up GSF Galaxy II was last seen operating for GDF Suez in the North Sea with a dayrate of $192,000.
