Trinidad and Tobago: Energy Minister Discusses LNG Trade with China

Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Energy Discusses LNG Trade with China

Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Kevin Ramnarine engaged senior Chinese officials in discussions on establishing a direct trade of LNG from China to Trinidad and Tobago and other energy-related matters beneficial to Trinidad and Tobago last week.

During his meeting with Deputy Head of National Energy Administration, Mr. Zhang Yuqing, and other officials from the Republic of China, Minister Ramnarine followed up on matters raised during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Trinidad and Tobago in an effort to promote bilateral relations between both countries. Minister Ramnarine noted that China’s advanced technology in CNG and renewable energy could be of benefit to Trinidad and Tobago, according to a statement.

Dialogue also centred on possible partnerships and investment in both the upstream and the downstream sectors.

These discussions will set the groundwork for the upcoming State visit headed by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to the People’s Republic of China later in 2013, the statement said.
