The application to construct the two facilities has been filed with the authority by LNG Gaz Üretim Depolama ve Satış.

The company’s president Cevat Evliyaoğlu told Anadolu Agency that the proposed projects would be the country’s first LNG production and non-marine facilities.

The regulator is currently working on the pricing and tariffs in related to the facility operations that will open the gates for talks with financial institutions to secure financing for the projects, he added.

Turkey is currently ranked third among natural gas importers in Europe, however, the country has seen hard times securing enough gas storage capacity.

The country usually stores its natural gas reserves in underground storage facilities and has over the last couple of years launched two FSRU-based import terminals.

The approved projects would bring online a small-scale production plant with a 208 cubic meters per day of LNG and 2,000 cubic meters of storage.

The costs are estimated at $35 million with the development date set for June this year with an eye on completion within 18 months.
