Turkey extends LNG deal with Algeria

Turkey and Algeria renewed their gas cooperation with a new 10-year LNG deal signed in Algiers on Wednesday. 

According to Anadolu Agency, the new contract will run for 10 years with Turkey agreeing to import 4.4 bcm of LNG a year from Algeria. This is an increase from 4 bcm of LNG imported under the previous arrangement.

The deal was signed together with a declaration of cooperation in the energy sector, a result of the official visit of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Algeria. Countries further agreed to jointly develop oil and gas exploration and production projects.

Turkey has been importing LNG from Algeria since 1988 and the contract was about to expire at the end of this year.
