Two Cargo Vessels Clash off Hamburg

No injuries were reported after two general cargo vessels, the Dutch-flagged Eendracht and the Gibraltar-flagged Transcapricorn, collided off Hamburg, in the Oste estuary, Elbe, Germany, in the early hours of November 26.

Eendracht was on its way from Hamburg to Harlingen when it changed its course due to unknown reasons and approached the stern of the cargo vessel Transcapricorn, which was carrying scrap metal from Rotterdam to Tornio.

As a result of the collision, the 2000-built Transcapricorn was pushed on the river’s shore below the estuary, and developed a slight list. The vessel was soon refloated with the help of the Wulf 7 tug.

Both cargo vessels were in sailing condition after the incident and proceeded to the port of Cuxhaven, where they were inspected for damages.

The authorities reported that the vessels did not suffer any damages that could compromise their safety.

Furthermore, the authorities did not detect any pollution in the area following the accident.

Given the degree of the accident, the authorities decided that it was not necessary to block the vessel traffic.

The incident is currently under investigation.
