Two Petrobras’ FPSOs Collide in Brazilian Shipyard

The P-58 and P-63 oil and gas platforms under construction at Brazilian Honorio Bicalho shipyard collided on Saturday after high winds disentangled their moorings.

According to Reuters, Brazil’s state oil company Petrobras said that the platforms broke free of their moorings in port of Rio Grande, and the company is preparing to undertake an inspection to assess the damages.

The company stated that it is unclear whether the incident will delay the deployment of P-58.

P-58 is an FPSO unit which is scheduled to go into production in the first quarter of 2014 at the Baleia Azul field.

It is designed for at least 25 years of uninterrupted operation without the need for dry-docking.

Reuters also reported that Petrobras said, prior to the platforms’ collision, that the P-63 was scheduled to complete its construction in the middle of this year and be deployed in the Papa Terra field in the Campos Basin.

P-63 FPSO has a processing capacity of 140,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and a storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels. The vessel is also capable of compressing 1 million of cu m (35.3m cu ft) of gas per day. Its power generation capacity stands at 98 MW.
