U.A.E: Oil and Gas Professionals Gather in Dubai for IOGS Event

Oil and gas professionals focused on health and safety will gather in Dubai on Thursday February 9, 2012 for the inaugural Innovation in Oil and Gas Safety (IOGS) event, presented by Pipeline Magazine, one of the region’s leading oil and gas titles.

Held at The Address Hotel, Dubai Marina, IOGS will feature presentations from a number of international health, safety and environment (HSE) specialists and protective clothing experts, speaking on some of the most important issues impacting the industry.

The line-up of presenters includes Dr Pravinray D. Gandhi, Director of Corporate Research, Underwriters Laboratories Inc; Stan Jewell, vice president, Bulwark Protective Apparel; Michael Stanhope, vice president – innovation, Tencate; Travis Greer, development manager, Miliken; Diane Woods, general manager, Timberland Pro and Carl Sall, a leading independent HSE consultant.

“Health and safety is a critical aspect of the energy industry that directly impacts the most important resource of any organisation – its people,” said Kimon Alexandrou, Commercial Director, dmg Energy Group.

“This event highlights a number of the health and safety issues impacting oil and gas companies, not only from the region but also globally,” he added.

In addition to the professional presentations from senior industry executives, IOGS also encourages discussion of the issues and outlines some of the solutions that have been and can be adopted by oil and gas companies from across the upstream, midstream and downstream areas of the industry.

Along with providing exclusive insights from industry HSE experts, IOGS provides an excellent networking opportunity.

HSE has received increasing emphasis within oil and gas organisations across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in recent years, with almost all companies having now appointed specialist staff to help ensure compliance with best-practice safety programmes.

A number of high-profile incidents have also increased the international attention on oil and gas HSE practices in recent times. BP’s Deep Water Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico, United States, in 2010 and last month’s Chevron Funiwa Deep well-blowout in Nigeria are just two incidents that claimed a number of lives, injured many others and caused huge environmental damage.

The Innovations in Oil and Gas Safety event is presented by Pipeline Magazine along with key sponsors VF Imagewear, Timberland Pro, Tencate, Bulwark Protective Apparel and Miliken.
