'Mastech 2013' to Gather Naval Architects and Engineering Professionals

Increasing energy efficiency standards, safety concerns and demand for design innovations are set to bring naval architects and engineering professionals to one of the world’s foremost international maritime conference ‘Mastech 2013’ on naval architecture, shipbuilding and oil and gas to be held in Sharjah next year.

For the second consecutive edition, MAST the Middle East Alumni of Ship Technology and Expo Centre Sharjah, have entered into an agreement to organize the Mastech conference at Expo Centre Sharjah during the Gulf Maritime 2013 trade fair.

Mastech is organized by MAST an alumni association of naval architects graduated from the department of ship technology, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala, India.

Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah, signed on behalf of Expo Centre Sharjah while MAST was represented by Mr. Shine Jose, President of MAST along with other office bearers Mr. Ashik Subahani – Mastech Convener, Mr. Sajan Mathew, Mr. Bhaskar Gollapudi, Mr. Rajesh Babu and Mr. Rajesh Panicker.

“Mastech was held along with the biennial trade event Gulf Maritime for the first time in 2011. The response was so encouraging that Expo Centre Sharjah and MAST have decided to join forces to organize the conference as part of the next edition of Gulf Maritime in 2013,” said Mr. Midfa.

“The considerable presence of MAST alumni members in several positions in the UAE and the Middle East marine and offshore industry will be a high point of Mastech. Together, Gulf Maritime and Mastech will give the industry a reliable and highly-focused maritime and offshore sourcing point and an international marine and offshore technical conference under a single roof,” said Mr. Midfa.

Mastech 2011 saw about 638 delegates attending the presentation of nearly 20 technical papers focusing on next generation ship design, shipping economics, technical innovations in maritime industry, marine heavy lift & transport, and oil & gas sector.

“MAST successfully partnered with Expo Centre Sharjah in 2011 to provide the industry with unique insights into naval architecture and new developments in the industry. Changing regulatory guidelines, safety norms and security concerns imply that naval architects need to keep pace with latest advancements and Mastech 2013, together with Gulf Maritime, will be an event that the regional maritime and offshore industry can hardly afford to give a miss,” said Mr. Shine Jose, MAST President.

“Mastech will also help the industry to gain in-depth knowledge in improved productivity and cost-competitiveness that are necessary to respond to the demand for lowering the cost of operation and environmental sustainability. No wonder that the maritime and industry keenly awaits the Mastech conference,” said Mr. Ashik Subahani, Mastech Convener.

It will be a must-attend event for ship owners, naval architects, ship designers, engineers, operators, shipbuilders and suppliers of equipment and services to not only gain a fresh outlook of the industry but also to share their experience, exchange ideas, and discuss latest trends and issues with their peers.

It will present the great potential of UAE as a global maritime and offshore hub with its strategic location advantage, economic stability, maritime heritage and Oil & Gas reserves.

Gulf Maritime is the region’s foremost maritime event and caters to the complete requirements of the commercial, government and the military maritime industry.

The eighth edition of the Gulf Maritime exhibition attracted 2,095 trade visitors and delegates, recording an 80 per cent rise in turnout in comparison to the previous show.
