UAE Seatrade Awards Recognizes Milaha Achievements

Milaha received two major accolades at the recent Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards 2013 held in Dubai. Known as the “Oscars” of the maritime world, the awards were presented at a glittering gala dinner attended by more than 800 leaders and senior executives from the region’s maritime sector.

Milaha’s President & CEO, Mr. Khalifa Ali Al-Hetmi, received the “Seatrade Outstanding Achievement Award”, a special award presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the industry in the region and have dominated the headlines. In addition, Halul Offshore Services Company, a wholly-owned Milaha subsidiary, took home the “Marine & Offshore Services Award” to complete a strong showing by Milaha.

It was a successful showing for the rest of Qatar’s contingent as well, and showcased their emerging presence in the region’s maritime industry.Validating Qatar’s growing clout in the maritime sector, all three Qatari nominees – Milaha / Halul Offshore, N-KOM and Qatar Petroleum Industrial Cities – emerged with honours.

The region’s most prestigious shipping industry awards is celebrating its tenth year, and these awards honour individuals, organisations and companies from across the region’s shipping and logistics industry that have shown excellence and innovation over the previous 12 months. In all, 29 awards were given to individuals, organisations and companies from across the region during the evening, which also saw a keynote address from the guest of honour, H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World.

Chris Hayman, chairman of Seatrade, said: “The companies that were both shortlisted for the awards and those that were winners have shown exemplary levels of achievement, in areas such as technical and operational innovation, commitment to safety and quality, social and environmental responsibility, business acumen and development of human resources. Seatrade salutes them all.”

Mr. Al-Hetmi, recognized for leading Milaha through its merger in 2010 and for driving the transformation efforts subsequently, spoke briefly upon being presented with his individual award saying “It is a great honour to be recognised with this special award on the 10 year anniversary celebration. I want to thank Seatrade for this award and my team for their hard work in taking Milaha to the next level.”

Milaha’s Chairman and Managing Director, Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani, said “On behalf of the entire Milaha family, I would like to thank Seatrade for this great recognition. I want to commend the efforts of my colleagues in Halul and across the group who are driving Milaha’s progress. Our vision is to be globally recognized in the maritime and logistics sector and we will continue to improve our capabilities and performance to deliver world class maritime and logistics services to our clients.”

Milaha also recently received the 2013 “Logistics Company of the Year” award from Arabian Business, a leading international business publication focused on the Middle East, at a ceremony held in Doha last month.
