UK ABPmer to Present Its Paper at All-Energy

ABPmer will be presenting a paper at All-Energy, titled “Enhancing the Atlas of UK Marine Renewable Energy Resources”.

The government sponsored UK Marine Renewables Atlas, first published in 2004 and updated in 2007, remains the most recognised and widely used source of resource information for the marine renewable community in the UK, averaging 125 separate downloads of the various data available each month.

As modelling and computing technologies have advanced in the period since the inception of the original Atlas, ABPmer has continued to work in-house and with the industry to enhance the information already presented, to provide a higher level of detail in places of interest.

Jamie Hernon, the author of the ABPmer paper, said: “Recent work at ABPmer has included modelling both wave and tidal energy distribution in waters surrounding Northern Ireland, the Western Isles of Scotland, Pentland Firth and the Orkney Islands.

“This paper will detail the techniques applied, the resolution of the data, areas of greatly enhanced detail, and comparability to the previous Renewables Atlas.”

ABPmer has been supporting the marine renewables sector with technical and scientific research and studies for more than a decade.

ABPmer initiated, led and continue to develop the Atlas of Marine Renewable Energy Resources, the most recognised source of publically available data for the regional description of potential marine energy resources across UK waters.
