UK: AREG Applauds Salmond’s Investment Fund Announcement
Following the Alex Salmond’s Renewable Energy Investment Fund announcement, AREG released statement at the Scottish Low Carbon Investment conference.
Morag McCorkindale, chief operating officer at Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) said: “This is great news for Aberdeen City and Shire particularly its wave and tidal sector.
“The region is already punching above its weight in renewables with high-profile projects including the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, the Aberdeen Hydrogen project and a number of biomass initiatives that provide renewable heating. However, whilst the region is emerging as a centre of excellence for marine renewables – particularly in offshore wind – its wave and tidal sector needs crucial investment support.
“Leading wave and tidal innovations and important R&D projects are being developed across Aberdeen City and Shire but more funding and support is required to help bring the considerable strengths we have in this sector to the commercial stages and open up the full scale of opportunities that this will bring.”
