Milford Haven Port Achieves European Standard for Environmental Management

Milford Haven Port has become one of only three ports in the UK to achieve European-wide accreditation for the standard of its Environmental Management System, having recently been awarded an EcoPorts PERS certificate.

Lloyd’s Register, world leaders in assessing business processes to internationally recognised standards, recently evaluated the Port’s Environmental Management System documentation and awarded Milford Haven Port Authority (MHPA) with the EcoPorts PERS certification.

The assessment process is part of the European Sea Ports Organisations’ (ESPO) EcoPorts accreditation process which verifies that the ports’ environmental management programmes are in line with the requirements of the only port sector specific environmental standard.

Commenting on this achievement the port’s environmental manager, Dave Levell said: “For many years MHPA has had a structured approach to the management of environmental issues. We operate across a diverse mix of activities which all interact with the natural environment and since we also operate within a European Special Area of Conservation, we do everything possible to ensure that we are environmentally responsible”.

He added, “The EcoPorts PERS certification is formal recognition of the work MHPA has done to date. In line with its policy for continuous improvement, MHPA will continue to maintain and enhance its performance in this area.”
