UK: Narec Names Ignacio Marti as CTO

The National Renewable Energy Centre, Narec, has added to its senior management team with the appointment of Ignacio Marti´ as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The new post of CTO has been created to support the rapid expansion of world-leading testing and research capabilities, following a £110m investment in new facilities in Blyth, Northumberland.

Ignacio joins Narec from CENER in Spain, where he spent almost 20 years and worked up to the executive position of Technical Director for Research & Development (R&D). A Physics graduate, he was responsible for the planning and delivery of all research and technical activities and has represented CENER on a number of international research committees. His technical research has been widely published.

Andrew Mill, Chief Executive at Narec, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ignacio to the team. He is an internationally recognised wind expert and brings with him a European network spanning across research and industry. He has a proven track record of initiating and delivering high-profile R&D programmes, and he will play an important role in growing our testing and research operations.”

Ignacio Marti, Chief Technology Officer at Narec, said: “This is a fantastic time to join Narec as new facilities are coming online. Narec is a key enabler for the offshore renewables industry and is expanding operations at the right time to support the up-scaling of technologies. I am looking forward to working with both commercial clients and R&D partners on projects to bring new products to the market sooner.”

Andrew adds: “The international calibre of applications received for this role confirms the progress that we have made over the last few years to establish Narec as the UK’s National Renewable Energy Centre, and a Centre of global significance in the offshore renewables sector. Ignacio’s focus in the short term will be to ensure new testing procedures are aligned with industry certification standards, while looking ahead to increase our involvement and leadership of European R&D programmes.”

Ignacio has relocated with his family to the North East of England and took up his full time position earlier this month.
