UK offshore container provider expands into Taiwan

The UK-based offshore container provider Cargostore has opened a container depot in the Port of Taichung to support the upcoming offshore wind projects in Taiwan.

The company has expanded into Taiwan in partnership with Rhenus Offshore Logistics and Maxlines New Energy & Project Logistics. Cargostore and Rhenus Offshore announced they will open a DNV 2.7-1 CCU depot in the Port of Taichung back in 2019. The start of operations at their Taiwan facility was planned for the fourth quarter of last year, at the time.

“With a projected 5.7GW of installed offshore wind capacity planned by 2025, the industry in Taiwan is growing rapidly, and to support this Cargostore has opened a DNV Offshore CCU depot in the port of Taichung which is now fully operational”, the company stated in a press release.

“The depot will stock a range of DNV 2.7-1 certified units including Open Top and Half Height offshore CCU’s available now with more units being deployed within the coming weeks”.

Taiwan plans to have over 15.5 GW of operating offshore wind capacity by 2035.

In the first two offshore wind auctions, held in April and June 2018, a total of 5.5 GW of projects were selected. These are scheduled to be completed by 2025.

From 2026 to 2035, Taiwan aims to add further 10 GW of offshore wind capacity.

This month (June 2020), the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced three more offshore wind auctions to be held by 2023, which will bring 5 GW of installed offshore wind capacity until 2030.
