UK: Plans for Grimsby’s New Harbor Revealed

UK Plans for Grimsby's New Harbor Revealed

Plans for a new harbor within Grimsby’s Royal Dock, which will be used by the Danish energy giant Dong Energy, have been revealed, reports Grimsby Telegraph.

Dong already announced that it is planning to come to Grimsby to construct Westermost Rough windfarm and to conduct operations and maintenance from this port.

This EUR 1 Billion worth project is located 8km off the Yorkshire Coast, north of Hull, and will contain 35 turbines of 6MW capacity, covering a total area of 35km2 and providing enough electricity to power around 200,000 homes.

John Fitzgerald, port director for Grimsby and Immingham, said: “This is just the start of the application process. Potential designs are being finalised for what is a very exciting project and another major investment in the Port Of Grimsby.

“The procedures are underway, and we are all optimistic. Once again, it puts the spotlight on Port Of Grimsby as the UK centre for offshore operations and maintenance, which includes Port Of Grimsby East as well as the commercial docks.”
