UK: Proposal for London Array Phase 2 Submitted

A proposal for Phase 2 of the London Array offshore wind farm has been submitted to the Department of Energy Climate Change (DECC) and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

The developers have reduced the initially proposed extension from 370MW to 240MW, after the surveys had been conducted by Natural England and the RSPB on offshore wind turbines’ impact on rare seabirds in the area.

The extension could comprise 65 turbines, with an option of even a smaller number if the 6MW turbines would be used, according to Kent Online news.

Covering an area of 40sq km, the second phase could produce electricity to supply over 180,000 households.
