UK Stays Offshore Wind Leader in Europe

According to the new report by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the UK has kept its leading position in the offshore wind, reports Energy News Live news portal.

The UK has installed more than 2,000MW of wind power in the last year, totaling to 3,813MW.

Total installed offshore wind capacity supplies power for nearly 2% of the country’s electricity needs.

In July Department of Energy & Climate Change released a renewable energy road map, noting that the industry has the potential to bring forward between 10 and 26 GW by 2020.

According to the GWEC’s report, the UK holds the greatest offshore wind market in Europe with 2,094MW, followed by Denmark (857MW), the Netherlands (247MW) and Germany (200MW).
