UK: Students to Name Gardline’s New Wind Farm Support Vessel

UK - Students to Name Gardline’s New Wind Farm Support Vessel

In conjunction with Gardline’s client’s London Array, a competition is being launched with schools in the Thanet area, to name a wind farm support vessel.

This vessel which will be based out of Ramsgate, Kent, will be the third crew transfer vessel being supplied by Gardline to service the London Array Wind Farm

The 17m aluminum catamaran, or Alicat – specifically designed to transfer technicians to offshore sites – is due to enter service in early summer. The two Gardline boats already at work are called the Marianarray and the Smeaton Array.

Local Students are being invited to name the third vessel, but there’s no reason why the third vessel has to have ‘array’ in it’s title. Students can be as creative as they like with their entries, but the judges suggest they consider the local area and its features, links to renewable energy, the marine environment or science and technology when thinking of a name.

The winning name will be picked by a panel from London Array and Gardline with final approval given by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency

The winner will receive £500 for their school, but also an all-expenses paid overnight trip to the shipyard, and a trip offshore in one of Gardline’s catamaran fleet.
