UK: Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Developer Opens Swansea Office

UK Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Developer Opens Swansea Office

The company behind plans for the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project has opened Swansea office, reports Wales Online news portal.

This move has been recognised as developer’s commitment to progress with the GBP 650 million tidal energy project.

“With Wales needing to source twice the amount of electricity that we currently use from renewables by 2025 and 4GW (gigawatts) of this from marine energy, the proposed Swansea Bay tidal lagoon could offer a renewable power source at significant scale boosting energy security at lower costs than alternative power sources can provide,” said Tessa Blazey of Tidal Lagoon Power for Wales Online.

Under the proposals, the lagoon would offer 250MW of installed tidal power capacity; reliable, predictable electricity generation for 120 years; with a capability of 16 hours’ generation every day. It would produce enough electricity to power around 107,000 homes, and create savings of over 200,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
