Ukrainian gas debt to Gazprom over USD 5 bln

Ukraine’s debt for gas supplies from Russia were at $5.3 billion as of August 1 and Gazprom urged Kiev not to disrupt the gas transit to Europe.

“Gazprom counts on Naftogaz of Ukraine to stick to its obligations on redemptions of arrears for the supplied gas and provision of smooth gas transit via Ukraine’s territory,” Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said, reports Reuters.

Ukraine is looking to pay a lot less than the $385 per 1000 cbm Moscow is asking, and a new round of talks scheduled for August 26 in Minsk will see Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroschenko give it another go at solving the price dispute, as well as the ongoing confrontation over Ukraine.
