UMG’s Equipment Helps to Map Qatar Coastline

Unique Maritime Group, one of the world’s leading integrated turnkey subsea and offshore solution providers, announced the supply of a full package of survey equipment for a new hydrographic survey vessel, with purpose of conducting a detailed mapping of Qatar’s coastal waters.

The package included dual-head multi-beam echo sounder system (EM 3002D by Kongsberg), single beam echo sounder (EA400 by Kongsberg), RTK system (Seapath 200 by Kongsberg Seatex) with radio telemetry (ADL Vantage by Pacific Crest), motion reference unit (MRU-5 by Kongsberg), sound velocity profiler (Midas SVP by Valeport), self recording SVP and portable tide gauge (by Valeport), post processing workstations and software (by Hypack and Caris).

Commenting on this key project, Ian Huggins, General Manager of Unique Systems FZE said; Our client had a very specific requirement for speed and a robust solution. We were able to work with the vessel manufacturer, during the build, to equip the vessel with a unique technology to work and carry out even multibeam surveys in extremely bad sea conditions and at very high vessel speeds. Unlike other installations, there are no vibrating parts or installation protrusions, which could limit the survey speeds. Hypack software was used for data collection and processing of data and CARIS software was used for the QC check and further processing of the surveyed data.”

The hydrographic survey vessel, named “Al Massah”, was constructed by No Limit Ships shipyard in the Netherlands. Unique System FZE and the yard collaborated to install integrated sensors, equipment and cabling at the appropriate time during the construction of the vessel. The remaining equipment was installed after delivery of the vessel to UPDS in Doha, where Site and Harbor Acceptance Tests were conducted.
