Update: Statoil says still in LNG talks with Achema

(Updated with a response by Statoil, 28.1.2016).

Norwegian energy giant Statoil declined reports it has signed an LNG supply deal with Lithuanian fertilizer producer Achema.

We can confirm that we are in the final stages of talks on LNG deliveries with Achema,” Elin A. Isaksen, a spokeswoman for Statoil, said in an email to LNG World News on Wednesday.

Isaksen declined to comment on terms and volumes of the liquefied natural gas supply deal.

It was reported on Monday that Lithuania’s prime minister Algirdas Butkevicius told the Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) that the deal was signed and first LNG deliveries to Achema will start in the first quarter of 2016 with more deliveries planned for the summer.

Achema has been looking for alternative sources as its gas supply deal with Gazprom expired during 2015. However, the company has been buying gas from Gazprom during the first three months of 2016.
