Uruguay Picks GDF Suez for LNG Import Terminal

LNG player GDF Suez of France has won a contract from the government of Uruguay to build an LNG regasification terminal in the port of Montevideo for an estimated cost of $1.125 billion, Uruguay‘s government said in a statement.

The project will consist of a floating LNG regasification vessel and will require construction of a breakwater and connecting the vessel to Uruguay’s network of gas pipelines.

The vessel will be rented at first but GDF Suez will incorporate a new one during the project’s second phase.

It will have a processing capacity of up to 10 million cubic meters of LNG per day.

The other bidders for the project were Enagas, Hoegh LNG and a consortium between Samsung and Kogas.
