USA: CEPD Pushes for Renourishment Funding

The Florida Legislature has recently given its approval to fund the beach renourishment project, including Captiva Island, which would enable Captiva to receive the maximum amount of federal funds.

The final word in making this decision falls onto Governor Rick Scott.

Governor Scott has the right to veto or approve the House Bill 5001 therefore the Captiva Erosion Prevention District (CEPD) is urging the members of the community to write to the Governor.

Kathy Rooker, CEPD administrator, says: “The passing of these bills are important to beach management, and we are cautiously optimistic about getting funding from the state“.

The HB 5001 would bring Captiva the amount of $4.5 million funds.

Beach nourishment in Florida should be strong because we can not lose that asset,” said Rooker. “Citizens should speak up for the importance of beaches to the community and the state.”
