USA: Crowley Takes Delivery of Its Second Veteran Class Tanker

Crowley Takes Delivery of Its Second Veteran Class Tanker

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA, a leading U.S. commercial shipyard, has delivered to Crowley their second Veteran Class MT-46 product tanker.

It is the fourteenth product tanker that the shipyard has completed and the eighteenth vessel overall. Crowley took delivery of the sistership, the Pennsylvania, in August 2012. The product tankers are 600 feet long and have a cargo capacity of 46,000 dwt.

The ship was ceremoniously named the Florida during an event at the shipyard earlier this week. The ship is expected to be placed into service moving domestic oil to U.S. based refineries.

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard President and CEO Kristian Rokke remarked, “We are thrilled to have delivered the Florida to Crowley. This delivery represents the conclusion of a tremendously successful series of fourteen tankers that over 1,000 men and women have worked on for the last eight years. This never would have been possible without the support and confidence of our customers, our industry partners, and the City and Commonwealth.”

APSI is currently constructing two 115,000 dwt crude oil carriers for SeaRiver Maritime, Inc., Exxon Mobil Corporation‘s U.S. marine affiliate. Both of these crude oil tankers are scheduled for delivery in 2014.
