DEC to Discuss Flood Mitigation Strategies for Mohawk River

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is holding a public meeting on Thursday, September 13, 1 p.m. at Herkimer County Community College (HCCC), Herkimer, NY, to discuss Mohawk River flooding and flood mitigation strategies, the agency announced.

The meeting will include two panel discussions with presentations on flooding along the Mohawk River, flood responses, floodplain management requirements and flood mitigation. DEC Assistant Commissioner James Tierney will moderate the meeting.

Panel speakers include representatives from DEC, NYS Canal Corporation, NYS Office of Emergency Management, U.S. Geological Survey, National Weather Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ecology and Environment and Union College.
